As a local family, we are extremely proud to have opened our café bistro on Abbey Lane, Sheffield. We are husband and wife (Jules and Jo) and live just outside Woodseats with our two children. We opened ‘Spoon’ in September 2011 as a local licensed family café bistro, finally realising Jules’ life-long ambition of having his own place. It started out as an idea, which has been built on and which we aspire to continue to build on every day. We have been lucky to have attracted many supportive and loyal customers over the years, as well as new inquisitive customers visiting us on a daily basis.
Jules’ is the face (and voice!) that many have now become familiar with, working front of house ensuring you are being looked after in a way that customers should be, whilst also regularly 'doubling up' as one of your chefs to make sure your food is created to your personal order. Jules has covered all aspects of the restaurant trade, from kitchen help and barman to chef and restaurant management. Having worked in restaurants and bars for over 30 years, his enthusiasm for ensuring high quality food is served with outstanding service at affordable prices will be evident when you visit us at 'Spoon'.
Taking a more behind the scenes role, Jo used her management background to establish the business and get us to the point of opening. Whilst continuing her job as a manager within the NHS, Jo continues to support the business side of running ‘Spoon’ by focusing on what many describe as the "boring but essential bits". You may also see her with the two children "quality controlling the food"... !
We are proud that everything on our menu is homemade on the premises, including the cakes, jams, marmalades and ketchup. All our menus are promoted as ‘adaptable’, so as long as we have the ingredients in the kitchen, we are happy to make any adaptations to ensure our customers are happy.
Our ingredients are selected from a range of local businesses, not only because they are produced so close to us but because we think they are the best.

Veggie & Vegan Sausages – homemade by Jules at“Spoon”
Meat – “Batty’s” (established Woodseats butchers for over 20 years) and “Moss Valley Fine Meats” (established Sheffield butchers for over 100 years)
Fish – “William Howe & Sons” (trading in Sheffield for over 100 years)
Fruit & Vegetables – delivered daily from Sheffield based “All Seasons”
Bread – baked and supplied daily by “Turners Bakers” in Nether Edge and “Perfectionery” in Sharrow Vale
Of course, we use the renowned & Sheffield produced “Henderson’s Relish
